Terui So
Born in 1974 in Arita, Saga Prefecture, Terui So is a ceramic artist who continues to create in his hometown. After graduating from the Department of Sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University in 1998, he turned his focus to ceramics.
Arita has been known since the 17th century as the birthplace of Japanese porcelain (Arita-yaki), celebrated for its fine, translucent white clay. With deep respect for this tradition, Terui follows a clear guiding principle: to use only materials traditionally employed in Arita-yaki. His work harmonizes time-honored craftsmanship with a contemporary sensibility.
Most of his pieces are made from soft, milky-white porcelain. Simple yet refined, they are designed to blend seamlessly into everyday life, embodying the ideal of “practical beauty.”
