THE ART OF JAPANESE SCENTS
For Paris Design Week 2026, Biën; presents “THE ART OF JAPANESE SCENTS” an exhibition exploring Japanese fragrance culture through incense, craftsmanship, and objects associated with scent.
In Japan, fragrance has long been appreciated not simply for its aroma, but as a way to mark the passage of time, shape an atmosphere, and heighten the senses, giving rise to a distinctive culture of scent.
The exhibition brings together contemporary Japanese incense brands and makers working in ceramics and metalwork. Beyond incense itself, it presents vessels, incense holders, and other objects that offer different ways of experiencing fragrance.
Through traditional knowledge and contemporary interpretations, “THE ART OF JAPANESE SCENTS” invites visitors to discover a quiet and sensory dimension of Japanese culture.
