TANAKA Nobuhiko

Born in Tokyo in 1966. After graduating from Rikkyo University in 1989, he moved to Kyoto in 1990 to study ceramic techniques at the Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Technical Advanced Training School. He then spent two years at a pottery in Shiga Prefecture, focusing primarily on wheel-throwing. Upon returning to Tokyo, he worked as an instructor at the pottery studio "Atelier Hikosen Ceramic Art Institute" in Kichijoji.

In 1994, he established his own kiln and studio in Iruma City, launching his independent career. For over 30 years since, he has dedicated himself to creating and selling functional tableware. His signature series, "Iro no Utsuwa" (Tableware of Color), features soft, watercolor-like hues designed to blend seamlessly into everyday life.

While frequently holding solo exhibitions at tableware boutiques and galleries across Tokyo, he has actively expanded his presence internationally. He has held solo exhibitions in Seoul and notably at "TIME & STYLE AMSTERDAM" in the Netherlands in 2018, 2020, and 2024.

In recent years, he has increasingly collaborated with the culinary world. His tableware is used by renowned European restaurants, including the world-famous "noma" (Copenhagen), as well as Chef Sota Atsumi’s "MAISON" (Paris) and Chef Marcin Król’s "Cypsele" (Paris). His works are also highly favored by numerous restaurants, bistros, and traditional kappo eateries throughout Japan.
