We are pleased to present a special pop-up store featuring Takazawa Candle and Syouryu Orin. The theme of this pop-up is “Yuragi” - the gentle, natural fluctuations created by candlelight and sound.

Takazawa Candle, based in Nanao, Ishikawa, has been making traditional Japanese candles for generations. The flame of a Japanese candle has a soft and unique movement, creating a warm and calming atmosphere.

Syouryu Orin, based in Takaoka, Toyama, creates Orin bells with a clear and beautiful sound that gently resonates through the space. We will also present Suzugami, flexible tinware made using traditional Japanese metalworking techniques.

The gentle movement of the flame and the subtle vibration of the Orin sound create two different kinds of “Yuragi.”

By taking a moment to experience both light and sound, your breathing naturally slows down, and you may begin to feel your own inner rhythm return to balance. Discover a quiet and peaceful moment where light, sound, and Japanese craftsmanship come together at Biën;.

Candle Night & Orin Live Demonstration

Experience the warm, flickering flame of traditional Japanese candles alongside the clear and resonant sound of Orin. Through live demonstrations and projected visuals, the makers will share their craftsmanship, materials, and creative process. Guests will also have time to speak directly with the artisans.

Hands-on Workshop: Light a Japanese Candle & Play Orin

September 26, from 15:00 – 18:00

A small-group workshop for 4–6 participants. Learn how to light, care for, and extinguish a traditional Japanese candle while discovering the natural materials used in its making. Participants will also learn how to play Orin through striking and rimming techniques, and experience the differences in tone and resonance.
A sensory introduction to Japanese craftsmanship through flame, sound, and materials.
